ARGOS PICKED TO WIN GSC

Josh Huggins Named to GSC Pre-Season Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of West Florida baseball team was picked to finish first in the Gulf South Conference along with North Alabama in the GSC Pre-Season Coaches Poll, it was announced by the GSC on Tuesday. Senior third baseman Josh Huggins (Bay Minette, Ala./Faulkner State CC (Baldwin County HS) represents UWF as the only player to be named to the GSC Pre-Season team.

Both West Florida and UNA received 44 total points with UWF receiving four first place votes to the Lions three in the GSC Pre-Season Coaches Poll. The tie marks the first time in the GSC since 2000 when North Alabama shared the top spot with Alabama-Huntsville. The Argos also received one second place vote and two third place votes.

Huggins finds himself on the GSC Pre-Season team after helping lead UWF to a National Championship in 2011. Last season the Bay Minette, Ala. native batted .313 with 14 doubles, six homeruns and 40 RBIs. Huggins slugged .474 and posted a .430 on-base percentage while flashing some leather at third base with a .905 fielding percentage.
