UWF WOMEN RUN AT THE FSU RELAYS

Freshman Audrey Carson Turned in a Strong 1500 Meter Performance

Tallahassee, Fla. – The University of West Florida women’s cross country team raced in the steeplechase, 1500 meters and 5000 meters at the prestigious FSU Relays this weekend in Tallahassee. Racing against Division I competition, the Argos were led by Audrey Carson and Renea Porsch with the team’s top performances in the 1500 and 5000 respectively.

Freshman Audrey Carson (Pace), running in her first collegiate track meet, raced to a 5:14 finish in the 1500 meters to lead the Argos. Teammate Keyanna Dennis (Chicago, Ill.) ran her season best of 5:17 in the same section. Dennis set the pace for the section early on and both Carson and Dennis finished in the top five of their section. The meet was delayed for nearly two hours for a lightning delay. All athletes had to leave the track area and then come back nearly two hours later to race. The delay occurred just prior to the 1500 metes sections.

Junior Sabrina Seignemartin (Navarre) raced in the 3000 meter steeplechase. She finished fifth overall with her personal best of 12:39. Giselle Slotboom of the University of Jacksonville won the race with a time of 10:37, which is one of the top times in the NCAA so far this season.

Three Argonauts raced in the 5000 meters. With some of the best in the NCAA Division I amongst the 40 runners competing in the race, a fast pace was set early. South Florida’s Allie Prendergast captured the race title in an impressive 16:43. Meanwhile, Renea Porsch (Land O’Lakes) led the Argos by finishing 20th overall, turning in her best 5000 meter time on the track with a 19:28 performance. Teammate Ruth Ashley (Altamonte Springs) was 26th overall with a 20:11 time. She was followed by Karyssa Tourelle-Fallon (Navarre) with a time of 20:38. The 5000 meter race did not start until after 10 p.m., due to the two hour lightning delay earlier in the evening.

The Argos will continue spring competition by racing in the UNF Invitational next weekend in Jacksonville on Friday and Saturday. A recap of the weekend’s events will be available on GoArgos.com. For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com
