AUBURN, Ala. – The University of West Florida women’s cross country team competed in the final meet of their spring season this past weekend at Auburn University. The War Eagle Invitational provided some of the toughest competition to compete against during the spring season. Freshman Audrey Carson ran the team’s fastest 800 meters this spring, while junior Renea Porsch turned in the team’s fastest 5000 meters of the spring.
Audrey Carson (Pace) capped off the spring season by running a personal best 2:24 for the 800 meters, which was the fastest 800 meters for the UWF women this spring. Carson also ran in the 1500 meters. She was one of three Argonauts to run the 1500 meters. She finished with a 5:14, which matched her best run at North Florida Invitational.
Keyanna Dennis (Chicago, Ill.) was the Argonauts’ top finisher in the 1500 meters. She raced to a 5:12 performance, which was her best of the season. Beatriz Labrada (Sandy Springs, Ga.) also ran the 1500 meters in her best time of the season, finishing the race in 5:21.
Sabrina Seignemartin (Navarre) raced in the 3000 meter steeplechase. This event was run during the hottest time of the day, and most racers did not run their predicted times. The field was the largest, with 20 runners, of any of the steeplechase events so far this year for Seignemartin. The large field bogged together in the first couple laps leaving everyone a little slow at the barriers and waterjump. Seignemartin would finish the event in 12:26, which was her second fastest steeplechase of her career.
In the 5000 meters, sophomores Renea Porsch (Land O’Lakes) and Ruth Ashley (Altamonte Springs) competed for the Argos. Each posted their season best performance. Porsch finished in 19:16, and Ashley came through the finish line in 19:49.
The War Eagle Invitation concluded the Argonauts’ spring season. The following are the top performances for the spring season. In the 800 meters, the top time for UWF was Carson’s 2:24 in the War Eagle Invitational. In the 1500 meters, Porsch had the season best of 5:07, which she ran at the Southern Miss Invitational and repeated at the South Alabama invitational. In the 3000 meters, Ashley had the team’s top mark of 11:21, which was run at the South Alabama Invitational. For the 3000 meter steeplechase, it was Seignemartin’s 12:11 performance at the North Florida Invitational.
