CALERA, Ala. – The No. 10 West Florida men’s golf team was four strokes behind No. 3 North Alabama heading into Tuesday’s final round at the Gulf South Conference Championships at Timberline Golf Club on Tuesday, but the Argonauts could not catch the surging Lions, finishing in second place. Senior Carlos Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia/Austin Peay) posted a fourth place finish for the Argonauts, earning his third career GSC All-Tournament Team selection.
UWF (294-307-306 - 907) finished the tournament 55-over par, while UNA (299-298-286 - 883) ran away with the title with a 286 in the final round to finish 31-over. West Georgia (305-303-302 - 910) finished a close third place behind West Florida.
Rodriguez (77-73-72 - 222) had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding 72 to finish 9-over par. Nate Anderson (69-72-77 - 218) from Valdosta State and Tyler Chandler (78-71-69 - 218) from North Alabama tied for the individual lead, and Anderson won medalist honors after a one-hole playoff.
Senior Ryan Black (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) posted a top 10 finish in his final time at the GSC Championships, tying for eighth at 14-over (70-75-82 - 227). Freshman Juan Miguel Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Jacksonville State) and senior Thomas Guste-Pedersen (Helle, Norway/Frank Phillips) finished in 13th and 16th place, respectively, and freshman Adam Whipp (Sydney, Australia/Pittwater HS) was close behind in 17th place. Heredia (74-80-77 - 231) finished 18-over, Guste-Pedersen (73-79-82 - 234) was 21-over and Whipp (79-81-75 - 235) 22-over.
