PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida Athletics Department held its annual student-athlete banquet Wednesday night, recognizing the achievements of the Argonauts during the 2011-12 seasons.
Athletic Director Dave Scott, along with the Master of Ceremonies Brett Berg, honored the 18 All-Gulf South Conference Academic Team members, 39 All-GSC athletes, 21 All-South Region honorees, four GSC Player of the Year winners and five All-Americans.
Women’s tennis player Jacqueline March and men’s soccer player Steven Hermosa won the university’s Scholar Athlete Award while men’s tennis player Sean Gunnels and women’s soccer’s Tori Fish reeled in Student-Athlete Leadership Awards.
Gunnels also took home the Kenneth L. Curtis award, granted to the male student-athlete for significant contributions, sustained leadership and service to the UWF campus life.
Erik Stolhanske, a founding member of the Broken Lizard comedy group, was the keynote speaker at this year’s event, wrapping things up as the Argo family celebrated its five GSC Championships so far this year.
