ROME, Ga. – Drew Bryson (Cullman, Ala./Wallace State-Hanceville CC (Cullman HS) hurled a complete game shutout while fanning four batters to guide the UWF baseball team to a 2-0 win over West Alabama in round two at the Gulf South Conference tournament. With the win, the Argos avoid elimination and improve to 33-16 on the year.
It was a pitcher’s duel until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Argos broke out for two runs. Dustin Saulmon (Panama City, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (A. Crawford Mosley HS) started the offensive production with a one out triple down the left field line followed back-to-back RBI at bats by Eric Sauls (Tallahassee, Fla./Ole Miss (North Florida Christian HS) and Korey Domenick (Festus, Mo./Mineral Area (Festus HS) put UWF on top 2-0. The Tigers threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back base hits to start the inning but Bryson was able to retire the heart of the Tigers order, throwing three pitches for three fly outs, to get out of the jam.
The remainder of the game Bryson was lights out going the distance surrendering six hits and capturing his fourth win to eliminate UWA from the GSC tournament. West Alabama’s Nick Bolleter also threw the whole game but picked up the loss allowing two runs on six hits.
