SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Carlos Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia/Austin Peay) proved to be one of the top players in Division II men’s golf in 2011-12, and on Thursday he was recognized on the Division II PING All-America first team. The All-America honor is the second in Rodriguez’s career at West Florida, and he is the 12th Argonaut to be named to the first team.
Rodriguez’s season was one to remember, as he totaled three tournament wins, tying a school record for single season wins. His tournament victories came at The McLaughlin, the New Orleans Mardi Gras Invitational and the Argonaut Invitational. Along with his win at the Gulf South Conference Championships last season, he finished his career with four wins, which ranks him tied for second in UWF history. Matthew Galloway finished his career with four wins as well, and Orjan Larsen is the school’s all-time leader with eight.
The Colombia native finished the season with a scoring average of 71.30 and 0.03 over par. His season included 10 rounds in the 60s and 17 of par or better. He had a historic start to the season, shooting rounds of 65-64-70 - 199 at The McLaughlin. His 64 in the second round matched the single best round in school history. Graham Spring shot a 64 at the GSC Championships in 1995, the only other 64 in UWF history. Rodriguez is currently ranked No. 4 in Division II according to Golfstat.
