VALDOSTA, Ga. - Tenth-ranked Valdosta State won eight of nine matches en route to a convincing 8-1 win over top-ranked West Florida on Sunday in Valdosta, Ga. West Florida falls to 5-2, 0-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State remains undefeated at 5-0, 1-0 in the GSC.
The only West Florida win of the afternoon was an 8-3 doubles triumph by the duo of Alberto Torchia and Eduardo Cavassoti. Valdosta State earned the other two doubles victories.
Four of the top 45 singles players were in action in singles. In the first position match, Valdosta State's Christoph Schneider upset second-ranked Diego Zorzi, 6-4, 6-4. Fourty-fourth ranked Mickael Andreo topped 45th ranked Torchia, 6-3, 6-1, in the second position match. Thomas Provost, Valdosta State's 20th ranked singles player, won 6-0, 6-1 over Cavassoti. Valdosta State won the three other singles matches in straight sets.
West Florida will travel to Auburn Montgomery on Thur., Mar. 2 at 2:00 p.m.
