ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Tonight Shannan Bergen's West Florida Argonauts have a chance to do what no other UWF women's basketball team has done in program history. A win tonight would put the Argos in the NCAA South Region Championship game on Monday night at 7:30 pm. A loss and UWF's wild ride into the "Big Dance" is over.
West Florida (23-6), the sixth seed, will have their hands full tonight with the number two seed and tournament host Henderson State (27-4). The Argos won the Gulf South Conference East Division, while the Reddies won the West Division. Henderson State is ranked 11th in the country.
West Florida advanced to the semifinals by defeating 15th ranked Fort Valley State last night, 65-64. The Lady Wildcats were the third seed. Henderson State got by seventh seed Paine College, 77-65 last night.
The last time UWF reached the NCAA South Regional semifinal in 1998, they were defeated by Arkansas Tech.
