Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Rankings
TEMPE, Ariz.  –  Following one of the more impressive fall campaigns in school history, the UWF doubles team of
Alex Peyrot and
Pedro Dumont were ranked as the No. 1 doubles team in the Oracle/ITA Division II Fall Rankings as announced by Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association earlier this week.
              Â
The duo compiled an 8-1 collegiate record in the fall and capped their play by winning the ITA Oracle Cup Division 2 National Title in mid-October. Last week they received a wild card entry into the ITF Pensacola Futures Tournament and went 3-1, advancing to the finals in a field of full-time professional competitors.
Â
As a team, UWF is ranked ninth after ending last season sixth. The top five includes No. 1 Hawaii Pacific , No. 2 Saint Leo, No. 3 Armstrong State, No. 4 Lander and No. 5 Valdosta State.
Â
Peyrot is also ranked in the singles ledger, coming in at No. 37. The Argonauts have another doubles team in the top 25, with
Alfonso Castellano and
Pablo Tellez ranked 12th. UWF is one of three schools with two teams in the doubles ranking but the only one with both in the top 12.
Â
UWF went 19-7 a year ago and advanced to the finals of the NCAA South Region at Saint Leo. The Argos had eight victories against ranked teams while playing in the toughest region in Division II.
Â
UWF will open the dual match portion of the 2016-17 schedule on Feb. 7 with a men's and women's match at Auburn-Montgomery.
Â
The next set of national rankings will be released on February 22, 2017.
