2017 UWF Schedule
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF Football team will play six home games and four teams that participated in the NCAA Playoffs as part of the 2017 schedule that was announced at the program's National Signing Day event at the Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola Wednesday.
Â
After having five home dates in its inaugural season a year ago, the Argonauts will host a pair of non-conference games and four Gulf South Conference opponents in 2017. UWF went 3-2 at Blue Wahoos Stadium last season and averaged 6,328 fans per game to rank 18th out of 172 Division II programs.
Â
After opening the schedule at Missouri S&T on Sept. 2, UWF will have three consecutive home games at BWS. The Argonauts open the homestand on Sept. 9 against Midwestern State out of the Lone Star Conference. The Mustangs went 8-3 last season and lost in the First Round of the NCAA Playoffs.
Â
A week later, UWF will close out non-league action against Chowan. The Hawks finished last season 6-4 and defeated UWF 35-28. The Argonauts open GSC action on Sept. 23 against Valdosta State. The Blazers are coming off an 8-3 slate that saw them win seven of their last eight regular-season games to qualify for the NCAA Playoffs.
Â
The Second Annual Coastal Classic will take center stage on Sept. 30 when the Argonauts head east to face Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla. UWF claimed the inaugural classic - which pits the only football-playing Division II schools in the state of Florida against one another - 42-39, over the 16th-ranked Panthers on national television last season. FIT was one of the three GSC programs to qualify for the postseason in 2016, doing so in their fourth year of existence.
Â
The Blue and Green will return to Northwest Florida for back-to-back home games against the GSC's two schools from the Magnolia State, beginning Oct. 7 with Mississippi College. A week later Delta State will come to town for Homecoming. The Argos and Statesmen played the highest scoring game in UWF history a year ago - a 55-51 DSU win.
Â
UWF will be on the road for three of its final four contests; Oct. 21 at Shorter, Oct. 28 at West Alabama, Nov. 4 at home against the 2016 NCAA runner-up North Alabama for Senior Day and Nov. 11 at West Georgia.
Â
The kickoff times for the first four home games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with the Homecoming and Senior Day contests kicking off at 4:00 p.m.
