SURPRISE, Ariz. – The fourth-ranked UWF women's tennis team saw its magical postseason run end with a hard-fought loss to top-ranked Barry in the 2018 national championship match.
UWF ended the year with a 31-4 record to set a new program benchmark for victories in a season. The Argonauts qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd-consecutive year and advanced to the round of 16 for the 12th time. UWF also won its 18th Gulf South Conference championship and ran its win streak over conference foes to 96-straight matches.
On Friday, the Argonauts just ran into a Barry team that was looking to win consecutive national titles and had won 57-consecutive matches.
The Bucs went up 2-0 in doubles with 8-3 wins at the first and third courts. On court two, the UWF duo of
Paula Coyos and
Valeria Mantilla went up 7-6 but was unable to close it out, falling 9-7 heading into singles.

Ines Nicault, 6-2, 6-1.

Heather Mixon, 6-2, 6-2 for the 5-0 victory.
The Argos were making their second all-time appearance in the championship match, joining the 2007 squad as the only ones to play for a title.
