GAME NOTES: GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argonauts are heading to the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face off against North Alabama in a rematch of the season finale. UWF has taken three out of the four regular season games from the Lions with Friday's first round match up starting at 11 a.m. in Southaven, Miss.

ALL-GSC
University of West Florida outfielder Emma Johansen and designated player Sarah Scott have been named to the All-Gulf South Conference Second Team. Johansen is leading the Argos in most offensive categories while Scott remains one of the most consistent hitters in the UWF line up for Coach Cyr.
REGULAR SEASON STANDINGS
With the 2012 regular season coming to a close, the GSC had a concluding weekend that saw No. 1 Valdosta State take a topple, ending their undefeated GSC run. The Blazers still sit atop the conference and are followed by a hot No. 22 Alabama-Huntsville, West Florida, West Alabama, Delta State, North Alabama, Christian Brothers and West Georgia.
LEADING THE WAY
Leadoff batter Emma Johansen has been one of best in the conference throughout the season. The junior transfer currently leads UWF in batting average (.385), on base percentage (.453), hits (62), runs scored (41) and stolen bases (27). Johansen has also started in 50 games and carries a fielding percentage of .969.
UWF TOURNAMENT HISTORY
West Florida has made a staggering 16 Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances with three of those resulting in championships. The Argos failed to make the tournament during head coach Tami Cyr’s first year at the helm in 1994 as UWF transitioned from NAIA to Division II, and last season when the Argos finished 11-16 in the GSC.
REGIONAL RANKINGS
With the latest rankings from the NCAA, the University of West Florida softball team finds itself one spot higher than last week at No. 6 in the South Region. The Argonauts are now in good shape to make the NCAA South Regional on May 4-6, with the top eight teams making the cut.
THOMPSON AT FIRST
Senior Crystal Thompson has been a rock for the Argos at first base all season long. The Bonifay, Fla. native has recorded 341 putouts while committing just three errors this season. Thompson is also batting .313 with 11 doubles and three homeruns.
LAST TIME VS. NORTH ALABAMA
The Argonauts took three of the four regular season meetings with the Lions including the regular season finale, 10-1. UWF has outscored UNA this season by a combined total of 18-12.
