University of West Florida Football
UWF President Judith Bense announced Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 that the university is committed to enhancing student life and the traditional collegiate experience for students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community. As part of the vision for enhanced student life, Bense charged athletic director Dave Scott to explore implementation of an athletics visioning plan, which includes adding intercollegiate football at UWF.

With President Bense leading the charge, the university plans to add football as an intercollegiate sport in the fall of 2016. There will be many steps along the way before football at the university can become a reality. Some of those steps include:
- SPRING 2014: Hire head football coach (more info)
- FALL 2014: Begin recruiting first football student-athletes
- FALL 2015: Enroll inaugural recruiting class and begin recruiting next class of football student-athletes
- FALL 2015: Begin practices and intrasquad scrimmages
- FALL 2016: Begin inaugural season
