Patrick Ryan started in his new role as the UWF Department of Intercollegiate Athletics’ academic coordinator in September 2012. Ryan comes to athletics after 2 1/2 years working in the UWF Career Services department. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from UWF in 2008 and his master’s in 2011.
As academic coordinator, Ryan provides academic support and advising to student-athletes. He is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing and evaluating programs and academic services for the athletic department.
During his time working in career services, Ryan was involved with the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE) and Florida Career Professionals Association (FCPA), and he was recognized as a SoACE Emerging Leader.
In his previous position, Ryan worked with UWF students on life skills and career development, which includes career coaching, academic advising and career preparation. He implemented many new initiatives in the area of career planning, including using technology to reach online students and alumni at a distance.
He is involved with many groups on campus, and he has acted as chair of the Student Affairs Symposium Committee and the Etiquette Dinner Committee. He is also an experienced teacher with three years teaching the Academic Foundations seminar on campus.
Ryan was born and raised in Orlando, Fla. and attended Lake Brantley High School. He is also a football fan and follows the New York Jets.
